CBC, in alliance with USAID and Technoserve, launch a support project for Tiendas de Colonia in El Salvador
The United States government, through USAID, Cbc and TechnoServe, has launched the “Support Project for Tiendas de Colonia” in El Salvador, with the aim of promoting inclusive economic growth in the retail sector. This project will offer financial and business training to 44,000 local merchants, improving their business models through digital channels. In addition, it seeks to facilitate access to financing for 10,500 businesses and benefit 15,000 residents of Santa Ana, San Miguel and San Salvador with new products and services.
The program includes an acceleration for more than 1,800 stores, which will receive technical support in key areas such as sales and digitalization. A leadership and empowerment course for women will also be offered. This effort is part of the Central America Forward initiative, aimed at mobilizing investments in the region and reaffirming the commitment to economic development in El Salvador. The project aims not only to improve the sustainability of these businesses, but also to generate a positive social impact in the communities.

Juan Pablo Mata, CEO of the multilatin corporation Grupo Mariposa, was invited as a presenter at the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum, an event that has taken place for 54 years in Davos, Switzerland.
The 2024 edition adopted the theme “Rebuilding Trust”, aiming to restore collective agency and focus on the fundamental principles that foster trust, transparency, coherence, and accountability.

Davos 2024 convenes over 100 governments, major international organizations, civil society leaders, prominent experts, young leaders, social entrepreneurs, media, and 1,000 partner companies of the World Economic Forum. Recognizing the importance of economic equity in the green transition.
Discussing the World Economic Forum’s Framework for Economic Equity in the Green Transition to consider strategies that can prevent an increase in economic inequalities, both within and between countries.
Aligning in key areas and opportunities where this Alliance for Equitable Transition can make breakthroughs.

In the context of Women’s Month, at CBC we reaffirm our commitment to gender equality, honoring the agreement made with the 7 Principles of Women’s Economic Empowerment (WEPs), signed since 2018 with UN Women, to promote development through a clear sustainability strategy.
CBC was the first private entity in Guatemala to sign the agreement with WEPs, which we adopted and applied at all levels of the company, making us promoters of gender equality and women’s empowerment worldwide. We were also the first Guatemalan company to participate in a “Target Gender Equality Live” forum, held by the United Nations Global Compact.

Other CBC initiatives include community development programs to promote circular economy, training, and women’s empowerment, such as Atitlan Recycles, with a social and environmental focus, Atitlán Recicla is a Women Recyclers Cooperative located in Atitlán, Guatemala. This cooperative is very special because all the women who work in it are recyclers and are dedicated to collecting and sorting the waste generated in the area. In addition to helping protect the environment through recycling, the cooperative provides employment and a source of income to these women, many of whom are heads of households facing economic difficulties.

Embotelladora La Mariposa has been granted authorizations as an Authorized Economic Operator (OEA-GT) for compliance with security standards in the logistics chain for foreign trade.
OEA operators are trusted and secure operators in the international logistics chain, complying with international security standards and the regulations, requirements, and obligations established in current customs legislation, in addition to enjoying facilities granted by the customs service, as partners, among which CBC stands out.
Embotelladora La Mariposa has maintained these authorizations since 2018, due to timely and correct risk management and comprehensive security, which covers physical security, health and occupational safety, food safety, information security, and cargo security. With this, we guarantee the proper handling of goods, certainty, and credibility in all our processes, in order to contribute to the economic development and international trade of the country.

The WEF has presented its promotion of Young Global Leaders, under 40, which includes Juan Pablo Mata as the CEO of Grupo Mariposa.
This year, the Young Global Leaders (YGL) group is made up of almost 100 people, including innovative entrepreneurs, researchers, and activists whose contributions promote and accelerate positive changes in their countries and the world.
Since its creation in 2004, the Young Global Leaders Forum has been dedicated to forming a community of outstanding people who tackle the most urgent global problems. Today, this network is made up of more than 1,400 people from over 120 countries.

CBC Award for ESG BOND DEAL OF THE YEAR
Its sustainability model is aligned with the great objectives that humanity has set for itself through the United Nations system and other global initiatives to protect biodiversity and to create better conditions for the integral and inclusive development of people.
In 2013, Cbc adhered to the United Nations Global Compact, to the UN Women’s Principles for the Economic Empowerment of Women in 2018, to the initiative that promotes objectives for the reduction of the carbon footprint based on science, Science Based Target Initiative -SBTI- in 2021 and the Stakeholder Catipalism Metrics, promoted by the World Economic Forum in 2022
Cbc is aware that today’s world is facing unprecedented environmental challenges such as climate change, for this reason, for this issue, it established targets to reduce its carbon footprint in line with the Business Ambition of limiting the increase in global temperature to 1.5°C. It is also ensuring its transition to a circular economy model through the certification of its production plants in the Carbon Trust Zero Waste to Landfill standard.
